John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

  • Start of show: “Bit slow on the trigger tonight – sorry about that. This is about to be an all-record programme, roughly 31 records, with 30 of them being singles, mainly new ones. The record which isn’t a single is the first in the programme. It’s the track that I promised you last night if you were listening then. It’s Conway Twitty’s version of ‘Whole Lot Of Shakin’ Going’ On’. An oldie of course, mainly notable for a classic guitar break. This is Conway Twitty.”
  • Phone call from Siouxsie before the show to say the Banshees/Spizzoil gig in Liverpool the following evening has been cancelled.
  • The Johnny Rondo Trio featured former Dandelion recording artist Lol Coxhill.
  • Peel mentions a Skids gig the previous evening at the Marquee, which it sounds like he attended (Peel says they name-checked Subway Sect). This was the gig where the version of “TV Stars” that appeared on the b-side of ‘Into The Valley’ was recorded.[1]. Peel had previously mentioned (on 31 October 1978) that he would be seeing Graham Parker at the Venue the following evening, so either his plans changed or he went to both gigs (his show of 01 November 1978 was presumably pre-recorded).
  • Lee Perry single was in John Peel's Record Box.
  • Blames Walters for following The Nips with Half Japanese.
  • Full tracklisting below is courtesy of the John Peel Papers. Many thanks to the uploader to the John Peel Papers at Facebook for sharing the information. [2]
