  • Football results in the League Cup... Liverpool 4 Bradford City 0 - Watford 7 Southampton 1. The week before Liverpool had lost 1-0 away to Bradford City in the first leg.
  • Mike Read, whose own show preceded Peel's, is still in the studio and can be heard after the Everly Brothers track.
  • The Hee Bee Gee Bees single is a Bee Gees parody featuring Angus Deayton.

  • File 1 begins
JP: "They left out the important stuff, which was Liverpool 4 - 0 Bradford City. Nothing is ever going to avenge last week's events but satisfactory enough I suppose. Most interesting score was Watford 6 - 1 Southampton and that game's still in extra time and when we get the final score it will be brought to you first here on Radio One."
JP: "Here are the Fall, currently my favourite new single."
  • Fall: Totally Wired (7") Rough Trade
JP: "Just had a phone call from the sports desk and they tell me that the final score was Watford 7 - 1 Southampton and this means that Watford go through into the next round. Southampton playing tonight without Kevin Keegan, so really a bizarre result that. One of the strangest in years I would say. Whether this means that Southampton are going to prove to be a one-man team for the rest of the season, we'll just have to wait and find out."

  1. Track listed as ‘Bushweed Corntrash’, which was the a-side, by Bonnie & Ricky. The Upsetters track, presumably the dub version, was the b-side. Seems likely Peel played the b-side, as he was a big Lee Perry/Upsetters fan.
