John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

  • 13 minutes of an edited show hosted by John Peel and available on file.
  • Presumably a short sponsored show (by the publication Car Advertiser) rather than a part of a standard three-hour Radio London stint. Peel does say "sometime between now and nine o'clock", so he would have had time to take a break before presenting the Perfumed Garden at midnight.
  • From a longer recording which also includes an hour of Mark Roman doing the Radio London breakfast show, a few minutes of the well-spoken senior DJ Paul Kaye at the start of the 9 a.m - midday show, and an hour of American DJ Chuck Blair ("don't forget, honey bunnies, and you too, rough rabbits") between 6 and 7 p.m. This is followed by the beginning of Garner Ted Armstrong's religious half-hour, "The World Tomorrow", after which the taper begins to twiddle the dial, looking for other things to listen to.
  • In the final days of Radio London some of the DJs had to do double shifts; Mark Roman mentions that he'll be back at 3 p.m. to do the afternoon show, so Peel might have had to do this show because no-one else was available.

Tracklisting[]

(JP: '...ordinal grateful and so are they I have no doubt, here is Moby Grape and this is Omaha')
  • Moby Grape: Omaha (7") CBS (interruputed near the start by a bit of dial-twiddling)
(JP: 'Those are Moby Grape and that's a great record... One of the best of the San Francisco groups and that is called Omaha, which is a town in Nebraska, there is something you didn't know and the chances are pretty good that you didn't actually care about it either really I suppose')
(Peel advertising the Car Advertiser "the quickest way to sell your car...")
(JP: 'Here's a group called Our Plastic Dream and this is rather an interesting record, it's called A Little Bit Of Shangrila')
  • Our Plastic Dream: A Little Bit Of Shangrila (7") Go
(JP: 'Actually I like the other side a lot better. The other side is called Encapsulated Marigold, which is a good title and that's a group called Our Plastic Dream on the Go label and A Little Bit Of Shangrila. I have no idea what's that like, but I'm willing to try anything')
(Peel advertising the Car Advertiser)
(edit - Peel mentions "Jeff" - Beck - presumably - says he's a nice person and tells listeners to buy his record)
(Peel advertising the Car Advertiser)
(Radio London jingle)
(JP: 'Can't help it being at number 1 and those are the Rolling Stones and that's the story of Dandelion, which of course you heard first on Radio London and sometime between now and 9 o' clock, we hear the other side, which is We Love You, which is very basic and simple and right')
