  • Radio Times listing reproduced on BBC Genome: "John Peel in Top Gear with Leonard Cohen, Tyrannosaurus Rex, The Nice, Skip Bifferty, Joe Cocker And The Greaseband and records we would like you to hear. Produced by Bernie Andrews"[1]
  • The Leonard Cohen session is from the first play, as the second track was not played on the repeat, and this is clearly recorded on the same day as a slight morse IF interference can be heard
  • The Cohen session is part of File 1, but the other tracks are followed by applause, so they are likely to be from the two TV shows the singer recorded for BBC2, which according to BBC Genome went out on 31 August and 7 September 1968[2].
  • The final track on File 1, a version of "That's No Way To Say Goodbye", is a duet featuring Cohen and Julie Felix, taken from her BBC2 show Once More WIth Felix. JP never played her records, but her show sometimes featured Peel favourites as guests (Tim Buckley, the Incredible String Band). According to Genome this comes from 27 January 1968 and the other guests on the show were the Alan Price Set.
  • Full tracklisting thanks to Warwick Johns
  • As Ken Garner notes in The Peel Sessions (p.53), this waa the first ever broadcast of what became Joe Cocker's biggest chart success, his version of the Beatles' "With A Little Help From My Friends". It didn't go out on the original session broadcast but was "saved" by producer Bernie Andrews. Cocker and the Grease Band recorded it commercially in September 1968 and it reached No. ! in the UK singles chart in November, giving it a score of "16 weeks" in Ken's Peel Ahead of Everyome (PAE) index.
