John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

  • Peel plays Extreme Noise Terror's first session track at the beginning of the programme.
  • Peel dedicates a Yello track to his son, Tom, who fell from his bike whilst racing his dad who was in his car leaving Peel Acres.
  • Peel plays a track from feedtime covering Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's Lightning's Girl.
  • Peel plays two tracks from the Sub Pop label, the first from Mudhoney and the other, Soundgarden. Later on in the programme, he reads out their Sub Pop’s address for listeners to write to.
  • Peel plays a session track from Overlord X called The Dedication, which mentions his name in the lyrics.
  • Peel reads out a listener's letter from Steve of Stafford thanking him in writing a book called 'Making Four Track Music'. However, JP, mentions that he never wrote that book and states that 'technology left me just after the wheel'.
  • Somewhat surprising to hear a 1974 Tim Buckley track in the playlist, although JP admits it is only because the album had just been re-released.

Tracklisting[]

(JP: 'Also from Australia, the New Christs')
(JP: 'I've never forgotten really the first time that I saw the Beat, at Aston University, one of the very best gigs ever. I invited them at the time to play their set through twice, and they did this, and both times it was wonderful. Just thinking about it sets me toes tapping.')
