- There was a strong football flavour to the show. Peel had been enjoying a lively team rivalry with the West Ham-supporting Cockney Rejects, and both Liverpool and West Ham had played in FA Cup semi-final replays earlier in the evening which had gone to extra time. Liverpool had drawn with Arsenal but were destined to lose the third replay (!) a fortnight later. West Ham had beaten Everton [1] to Peel's glee (notwithstanding a possibly insincere expression of sympathy for Everton's loss) and went on to win the Cup (more at Wikipedia).
