John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Sessions[]

Tracklisting[]

  • File 2 starts near the beginning of show
  • Pink Floyd: Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun (album - A Saucerful Of Secrets) Columbia SX 6258
  • Ian A. Anderson - It's Hard Times (session) #
  • Jim Eldridge: Tea With The Viet Cong (poem)
  • Lullaby: Folk Instrumental (v/a LP - Vietnam: Songs Of Liberation) Paredon (NOTE: Discogs mentions this was released in 1971, either an error or it was a track that came from a different album. Peel mentions that the track was on a record sent from somebody who obtained it at a youth festival in Bulgaria)
  • Ian A. Anderson - Little Boy Blues (session)
  • File 2 pauses
  • African record Wellington Boots (BBC Archives) (probably the South African track included on the LP John Peel's Archive Things)
  • Electronic music based on the Tibetan Book Of The Dead (possibly from Pierre Henry - "Le Voyage" [2])
  • File 2 resumes
  • Ian A. Anderson - Rowdy Blues (session)
  • File 2 pauses
  • Chris talking about Hornsey College of Art, famous at the time as a centre of student revolt
  • File 2 resumes
  • Adrian Mitchell - To Whom It May Concern (his famous "Tell Me Lies About Vietnam" protest poem) (LP - with Leon Rosselson - A Laugh, A Song And A Hand Grenade) Transatlantic TRA 171
  • File 2 ends
  • Ian A. Anderson - That's All Right (session)
  • Jim Eldridge - Sunday 6.30 (poem)
  • Alirio Diaz - Estudia V (LP - Four Centuries Of Music For The Classic Spanish Guitar) Vanguard VSL11010
  • Albert Ayler: Bells (presumably not all of, as it was an album made up of one 20-minute track) ESP-Disk 1010
  • Ian A. Anderson - Crazy Fool Woman (session)
  • Fire Walking Music (from the BBC Archives)
  • following tracks were only on the Paul Bryant playlist, but it looks like these were all from Top Gear on 18 August 1968. This raises the possibility that he may have more tracklistings from Top Gear.
  • The Byrds - The Christian Life (LP - Sweetheart of the Rodeo) CBS BPG 63353
  • Spirit - Fresh Garbage (LP - Spirit) CBS BPG 63278
  • John Fahey - Take A Look At That Baby (LP - Death Chants, Breakdowns and Miltary Waltzes) Takoma C 1003 (US release)
