John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Tracklisting[]

(JP: 'This next is for Alan Smith who writes to me from Nicosia, who doesn't like Bog-Shed, so naturally there's a Bog-Shed record coming up shortly, but not just yet. Instead, I'm going to play a record he actually wants to hear.')
(JP: 'At this very moment, Bog-Shed are in studios in London recording their third session in a year for my domestic radio programmes, the first band ever to do three in a year. Not even the mighty Fall have done that, although they've just become the first band ever to record ten sessions for the programme. This is most interesting, isn't it? Especially as most of you'd never get to hear them anyway.') [1]
(JP: 'I think if he were to do that on the streets of London he'd be detained, and quite rightly so. I don't see that that's going to leap into my list of all time favourite records, but as I say, I exist only to please you, the listener. Now something relatively conventional.')

  1. Unfortunately, John is wrong on all counts. Fairport Convention had recorded five in 1968 and eleven overall. Bog-Shed's third session was recorded on 17 July 1986, but was only their second in that year. The Fall's tenth was recorded on 29 June.
  2. Recorded on a portable cassette recorder at the Hotel Slavia in London. A Beach Boys "cover."
  3. This band come from Dusseldorf in Germany: John informs us that he spent his summer holidays there once, and it rained "without cessation." He also mistakenly announces them as Hooverbeat (the label name).
