John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

  • Tracklisting below is from Volume 1 of the Decktician Logs. Many thanks to Decktician, Ken Garner for copying and additional information, and Rocker for acting as central HQ.
  • Peel says that the Fleetwood Mac session is the last one which will include Peter Green as a band member. The final track on the show is a Green vocal in traditional blues style, accompanied only by his own guitar and Nick Pickett on violin.
  • Their session includes a version of Fabian's late 1950s hit, "Tiger". Peel mentions that a few weeks ago "Marc Bolan gave me a copy of the original version", but says it's less good than Fleetwood Mac's.
  • JP plays a couple of the more memorable tracks from the soundtrack LPs of the film Woodstock, and says he hopes the festivals taking place that weekend will be as successful. There is also an early play for a future number one single, by Mungo Jerry.
  • He welcomes the Grateful Dead to the country, plays a track from their Live Dead album and says he looks forward to seeing them tomorrow, "at Newcastle-under-Lyme or wherever it is".
  • He didn't always take the Disinterred Thirty-Three and a Third slot in the show very seriously and this week actually admits that the track chosen, a 1967 favourite by Paul Revere & The Raiders, is a single and not an album track at all (althoigh it was also the opening track on their LP Revolution!)
  • John Walters is wearing “a brand new, and probably stolen, leather jacket”, says Peel, and lets listeners hear how it sounds.
