John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

  • File 1 starts near the end of a Dutch language programme and Peel's show begins at 1:22 of the audio. Alot of the audio does skip a bit on that file.
  • Start of show: 'I'm going to miss that voice, yo! hipcats, dancing Jack Peel, the teenager's friend in London for VPRO, I have got some good stuff for you this week, here in studio B12, we're hitting and holding'.
  • Peel plays a track from J.F.A. (Jody Foster's Army) called Count, which only lasts 4 seconds long.
  • Peel mentions hearing King Short Shirt for the first time on a radio station in St. Lucia when he was holidaying there in 1977.
  • Peel mentions Liverpool beating Fulham 10-0 last night in the Football League Cup.

(JP: 'Alot of people say they sound like Echo And The Bunnymen, well so what, what's wrong with that, better sounding than bloody A-Ha if you ask me, hands up on that if you agree with me')
(JP: 'When I first heard that, I thought King Short Shirt was going to become the Bob Marley of calypso unhappily it didn't happen, that's called Nobody Run Me, well about, oh ten years ago now, great stuff though')
