- (Introduction to show, mood of Peel, interesting comments, etc. If possible, please add mentions of gigs attended, football matches, TV appearances, etc, for use elsewhere on John Peel Wiki.)
- Show is complete, though a more recent recording from the Rich 200 project indicates that the earlier ordering of component parts of the SL Tapes were incorrect, in that files b and c were reversed.

- "Tomorrow, of course, an entire nation is agog, as you know, for the Prime Minister's Desert Island Discs, and almost all of the humourists writing for all of the papers have suggested that one song that might easily get played - ha ha! Have not heard this before? You're gonna laugh - is 'When Blue Turns to Grey' and by the Mighty Avengers originally, written by Jagger and Richard. And I thought that it was possible that you had never actually heard that so I dug out my copy of it which is very scratchy and seen a lot of service - and all the better for it. Blue Turn to Grey:"

- "Mentioning Desert Island Discs (as you know, a few years ago, I was the castaway), and this week they had, at the Reform Club at Pall Mall, in Pall Mall London, a kind of party for all the survivors, I suppose, and it's not the sort of thing I would normally go to, being the kind of chap who keeps himself to himself, but I thought I would go along to this because, you know, it's obvious you are going to see a lot of extraordinarily famous people and it's going to be, probably, quite interesting. And, indeed, it was so. Somebody said - and I wish it had been me and I should claim credit for it, but, because you'd never know the difference - but somebody said it was a bit like going to Madame Tussaud's except all of the exhibits were alive and this was certainly the case. You kept bumping into people and there was Edward Heath. You know, a lot of...I was talking to Michael Holroyd the biographer (and A.S.Byatt). He actually turned out to be a rather nice bloke in fact, I thought. And Sue Lawley got up and made a speech and I was leaning against a column trying to look nonchalant and Sir Clement Freud came and sat down at a chair just by me because he's on crutches for some reason which I didn't enquire about and, afterwards, we started talking; I sort of said, you know, I introduced myself and he started to tell me who he was and I said 'Yeah, I know who you are - you don't have to tell me this. And he said to me after a while, he said 'have you ever met Princess Margaret?' and I said 'well, no, I'm not really into that very much, you know' and he said 'Don't be so stupid; come over and meet her!'. I have always hoped rather that if I ever met one of the royal family that I wouldn't do any of this 'Your Holiness, Your Godliness' kind of stuff and bowing and scraping. So I went over and she was sitting there, I think with Laurens van der Post, although I am not entirely sure, chattering away, and so I said 'Oh, hello. You know actually we have something in common which nobody else in this room has'. And she looked a little worried, I think, thinking 'hello; here's a loony' and I said 'not only have we both been on Desert Island Discs, but we have actually both been on The Archers as ourselves'. She was very pleased to have this mentioned. She sort of beckoned to me to sit down and discuss this with her which I did for some time. I liked her, I have to admit. I thought she was an amiable human being. And, er, anyway; that's it, really! That's my, probably my sole association in my life with a member of the royal family and I think I behaved jolly well."
