John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

  • Tracklisting details below for the Mott The Hoople set are from www.hunter-mott.com. It should be noted that the site believes that this Peel Sunday Concert appearance date is the most likely one for a recording circulated under the broadcast date 03 May 1970, as the album Mad Shadows is plugged heavily in the show and was released around this time. Given the uncertainty, the tracklisting details below should be regarded as provisional.
  • In his memoir Beeswing (2021), Richard Thompson recalled this concert (which he mistakenly calls a Top Gear session) as a difficult one for Fairport Convention, because the audience was made up of young and noisy Mott The Hoople fans with no liking for Fairport. In Thompson's account, there was booing during Fairport's set, the band responded with hostility, the event developed into a slanging match and Peel was "upset" by it all.
  • Information on the Fairport Convention set is from the Mainly Norfolk: English Folk and Other Good Music site.
  • File b) contains the first 5 tracks of the Fairport set. It appears that the first track from the Ace Rimmer set is not from this show,
  • File c) starts at the Fairport Convention track Now Be Thankful.
