John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

  • John reveals that the Wedding Present sent him demo tapes when they were called the Lost Pandas, but he didn't take notice of them until their second demo tape. He believes they were formerly known as something else, although no trace can be found of this.
  • He once more demonstrates some antipathy towards George Best, perhaps the reason that he was sent a cardboard cutout of him. Whether this is due to some genuine dislike for the man, or just the fact he played for the other famous team in the Northwest that plays in red, is at this point unknown.

Tracklisting[]

(JP: Just think, at this very moment all around the world, Cyprus, Gibraltar, Belize, Hong Kong, West Germany, people are flinging themselves across the room to switch off their radios, because it's John Peel's Music On BFBS.')
(JP: I suppose I have to be manly and stand tall and face the fact that the LP is called George Best. They sent me a cutout, believe it or not, I mean a very small cutout of George Best as a kind of promotional device: straight into the bin, of course.')
(JP: Back in the days when Pete Wylie was still doing stuff that was pretty good....I really like Wylie and I'd loved to have played you tracks from his current LP, but frankly there was nothing on there, I listened to it two or three times in the hope that something on there would suddenly come through to me, would speak to me, but it never really did. Very depressing indeed. Good bloke, nevertheless.')
