John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

  • Poet Tom Raworth (misspelt Tom Rayworth in The Peel Sessions) in studio (see Night Ride Poets)
  • The Ravi Shankar track is from the soundtrack of Chappaqua, a film directed by Conrad Rooks. Rooks had originally commissioned Ornette Coleman to compose the soundtrack, but decided not to use Coleman's work, which nonetheless was issued as a double LP on CBS, Chappaqua Suite. Coleman and Shankar both appeared in the film, as did the Fugs, William S. Burroughs, and Moondog, among others.
  • Full tracklist thanks to Tim Joseph

Sessions[]

  • Bridget St John #1, recorded 21st August 1968. On BBC Radio 1968-1976 and Dandelion Albums & BBC Recordings Collection 4xCD Box, 2015 (Cherry Red CRCDMBOX17) (off-air recording)
  • The one missing track is available on the album. Some tracks from the tape are identified as "acetate versions" ~ (available on Fly High Cherry Red / Dandelion CDBRED 696) but these sound identical (other than being of higher quality) and must be the Reel To Reel versions recorded by Al Stewart, which ended up being broadcast as part of the session.

(Please add details of any commercial release of these sessions)
