John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

  • Two recordings are available. On file a), the very start of the show is missing: it begins part way through the Mighty Wah! track (and ends with part of the midnight news). File b) is the complete show.

Sessions[]

  • Hefner, #5. Recorded 2000-02-16. No known commercial release. 'Everything Is Falling Apart' was not transmitted until 12 April 2000, due to a mistake (see below).

Tracklisting[]

(JP: 'Feeling pretty good about next season.')
(JP: 'A thumbs up for that growling guitar, no question about that.')
(JP: 'I think we could be headed for one of the most tasteless segues of all time.')
  • Suckle: 'To Be King (Maxi CD)' (Chemikal Underground)
  • Beserker: 'Deform (CD-Beserker)' (Earache)
(JP: 'A thing of beauty is a joy forever, as Keats said.')
(JP: 'It's always sex, isn't it, with Hefner. You never hear them do songs about drag racing or putting up shelves or anything like that.')
  • Asian Dub Foundation with Benjamin Zephaniah: 'Riddim I Like (CD-Community Music)' (FFRR)
  • Heads: 'Could Be (LP-Untitled)'
  • Harry Roy & His Orchestra: 'They Can't Black Out The Moon (LP-Songs of Wartime)' (Empress Recording Co) (JP: 'A dance sensation of yesteryear.')
  • Timo Maas: 'Der Schieber (CD-Underground Beats Series 3 Volume 7)' (CD Pool)
  • Lazycame: 'Commercial (Maxi CD-Yawn!)' (Guided Missile)
  • (JP then plays the 'final' Hefner session track, which should have been 'Everything Is Falling Apart', but is actually 'Milkmaids' again...and he doesn't notice it. The missing track was played in a later show.)
  • Decoder: 'Turnover (12 inch)' (Hardleaders)
  • Groundhogs: Split-Part Two (LP-Split)' (Liberty)
