- John had heard on BBC Radio 4's 'Today' programme that scientists have discovered that the Earth emits a low frequency hum: "What would be good really, is if they could speed it up to the point at which we could hear it then we could get the Earth in to do a session. What do you think?"
- Peel announces that when he takes a couple of weeks off in October, Rod Stewart will be presenting the programme on 19 October 2004. He didn't, in the end.
