Add N to (X) were an English electronic music band formed in London in 1994. The original members were Andrew Aveling, Barry Smith (aka Barry 7) and Ann Shenton. Steven Claydon replaced Aveling in 1997.

After several releases on small labels, they signed to the independent label Mute Records in 1998, and achieved modest commercial success before splitting in 2003.

Several of their songs and music videos are adult/sex-related.

Links to Peel[]

In 1998, Add N To (X) were among the bands picked by Peel to perform live at Meltdown when the DJ curated the annual arts festival in London’s Southbank Centre, on an evening bill that also featured Suicide and Jesus And Mary Chain. Their set was among those later broadcast on Peel’s BBC Radio One show.

The electronic three-piece were mainstays of Peel’s programmes around the turn of the century, recording four sessions between 1997 and 2003, with the first airing during a week of special shows presented by Pulp.[1] In November 2002, their final album, 'Loud Like Nature', was among the DJ’s monthly Record Box selections for the BBC website.[3]

Known for their love of vintage analogue synths, Add A To (X) also used live drummers, including Andy Ramsay of Peel session regulars Stereolab.[4]
