John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

(Zero Zero refers to the work of Simon Robinson, The Advocate. For the English new wave band of the same name, see Zero Zero(2)).
Advocate

The Advocate is Simon Robinson. He has been involved in electronic music on a professional basis since the age of 17. He has written music for Film and Television and has previously recorded under the names of Zero Zero for Kickin Records and in the band Parchman for XL Recordings.

He started out with the track 'Arabian Sugar' under the guise Third Wave which was a collaboration with Ivor Perry (Easterhouse). The track was released on Manchester label - Bop Communications - and received rotation by John Peel amongst other experimental DJ's.

'Thank God For Evil' was the first release as Zero Zero on Minimal Records. Another Peel favourite, the track helped secure a session on the legends radio show. Following this success, Zero Zero signed to Kickin' Records with the help of DJ Hype.

Ground breaking records such as The Sanity Clause and Zeroxed established Zero Zero on the international platform with gigs supporting The Prodigy and The Shamen.

Simon then went to Law School for too many reasons to mention here... At Law School he started the label Criminal Communications which gave birth to The Advocate!

Links to Peel[]

Peel first was aware of Third Wave in the summer of 1989 when he played his track, 'Arabian Sugar', from the Freak Beats - Volume 1 compilation album.

In 1990, Peel played Zero Zero's material on his programmes, which led to a session from the musician broadcast in 1991.

In the late 90's, Simon Robinson renamed himself as The Advocate, but this time producing drum and bass music, instead of techno. The Advocate received some airplays on John Peel's programmes between 1996 and 2003.
