John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Animal Nightlife 2

Animal Nightlife were a pop-funk outfit formed around the London club scene in 1980 with core members Andy Polaris on vocals, Leonardo Chignoli on bass, Steve Brown on guitar, Billy Chapman on saxophone and Paul Waller on drums. After gaining positive critical response as a live act, expanding to include other musicians and backing singers, and some minor success with their initial independent releases, the group eventually signed to Island records and had hits with Mr. Solitaire in 1984 and a re-recording of their debut single Love Is Just The Great Pretender in 1985. Their debut album Shangri-La also made the Top 40 in 1985 although the group disbanded after their second album Lush Life in 1987.

Frontman Polaris has since re-emerged on-line and on Twitter as "Animal Nightlife Native Boy Creative London Visual Stylist".

Peel seems to have expressed some interest in their early independent releases, including their track which featured on the NME's Racket Packet (NME 006) cassette. No sessions were recorded for Peel although the group did record one session for David Jensen in October 1983.
