John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Appendix Out

Appendix Out was a Scottish indie post rock/indie folk band founded in 1994 by Alasdair Roberts with school friends Dave Elcock and Kenny McBride who started out playing small venues. Roberts was also a classmate of Ladytron's Helen Marnie. While attending a Will Oldham concert in 1995, he offered a demo tape to the American singer, and a contract with US label Drag City soon followed. The band's first release was a double A-side single, "Pissed With You/Ice Age", and the band released its first album around a year later.

Between 1997 and 2001, Appendix Out released three albums, two EPs and some limited-edition recordings that were never widely distributed. The line up of the band changed frequently, with Roberts the only constant member.

Links to Peel[]

Peel first discovered the group in 1997 and played further material from them including a session they recorded in 2001. Between March and April 2002, Peel nominated their EP, A Warm And Yeasty Corner, as one of his records of the month for March 2002 / April 2002 (Peel's Record Box).

Their material included cover versions of songs by Ewan MacColl ("The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face") and the Incredible String Band (Mike Heron's "A Very Cellular Song") as well as traditional songs. Alasdair Roberts later made his name as a solo artist, mixing traditional Scottish songs with material of his own written in a similar style.
