Aqua Regia is Akin Fernandez (born in 1963), son of Nigerian-born parents, who grew up in Brooklyn, New York and moved to London when he was 15 years old. In the late 80's, he started the Irdial record label, where he released his electronic music along with other artists signed to the label. He also was a software developer who created a bitcoin voucher service called Azteco.

Peel played tracks from the artist between 1988 and 1992 on his radio programmes and offered to give away five or six copies of the 'Big Band House' single for the first five or six letters from listeners wanting a copy of it on his 29 November 1988 show. He revisited the artist in 1999, when he played his 'Big Band House' track.
