John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Aqua Vista

Aqua Vista was an Indie/Surf-Rock band formed in Derbyshire, UK in the mid-nineties. The band consisted of Rapido Turismo Lusso (guitar), Enrico Guivara (bass), Trabajo de Llama (bass), Nimmoy Colossus (drums) & Durango (organ).

Aqua Vista's music can only be described as "100mph Reverb Drenched Beach Punk". Fast guitar instrumentals in the suft vein, but overdriven and played at twice their natural speed.

They were previously known as The Surf Creatures and they released the X50 LP and Toxic Beach EP which was played by Peel multiple times.

Links To Peel[]

John was a big fan and supporter of the band. Despite not achieving huge success, Peel played dozens of songs by the band, even playing their demo CDR regularly on his show, Radio Eins and BBC World Service. The band recorded 2 sessions for the show in 2001-02 and their debut EPs ended up in Peel's Record Box those same years.

Ken Garner's The Peel Sessions book misspells the group as 'Acqua Vista' in the sessionography section of the book.
