Autumn 1904 is a post-punk indie-rock band formed in Edinburgh, Scotland by Allan Dumbreck (keys) and Ross Thom (guitar). The band was originally a 5-piece, Billy Bowie (bass), Keith Falconer (drums) and Billy Leslie (vocals) but took on two backing vocalists in the summer of 1983 (Indira Sharma / Lisa Cameron). They were part of the DIY indie-rock movement in Edinburgh in the early '80's alongside the Wild Indians, Finitribe and Goodbye Mr McKenzie. In Feb '84 they recorded a BBC Radio 1 session for John Peel. In March '84 their song "I Heard Catherine Sing" featured on the Deadbeat fanzine compilation album Deadbeat Tape 2.
In Jan '85 Thom, Bowie and Falconer left to form The Crows with former members of First Priority. Dumbreck and Leslie reformed the band to include Shirley Manson (later of Goodbye Mr MacKenzie and Garbage). The band split in Nov '85. Dumbreck went on to work with The Big Dish, Horse and Thrum. In May 2021 the original 5 members agreed to re-master ad release recordings from their original studio sessions.
