John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Bambi Slam

The Bambi Slam were a UK based Canadian-British quartet with an unusual instrumental lineup of guitar, cello, bass, drums, led by singer/guitarist Roy Feldon and featuring cellist Linda Miller and drummer Nick Maynard. By the time of the release of the first full-length album, The Bambi Slam, in 1988, the group had splintered, leaving the Bambi Slam as a Feldon solo project. (The album credit reads, "Written, produced, arranged and performed by Roy," though former group members also contributed.)

Links to Peel[]

Peel discovered the group in February 1987, where he played their debut single, 'Bamp Bamp', although on his 13 February 1987 (BFBS) show, he wasn't entirely convinced of it. Further material from the group were played on his radio programmes until 1988, including a session they recorded for his show in March 1987. In an interview with The Dumbing Of America website in 2009, Roy Feldon, was asked any recollections he had doing the Peel session:

"BBC sessions.  Amazing to go into the very sterile old BBC studios where the Beatles, Stones, Who, Hendrix, etc. had recorded their BBC sessions.  Unfortunately we got banned from doing any further John Peel sessions as they are supposed to be done really quickly in one day and as it took us two because I had to play a lot of the instruments and samples, etc..  They told the label we would not be asked back."
