- Found this in my documentaries box the other week, Peel only the scripted presenter, but a novelty all the same:

- Actually he wrote the script too - or at least co-wrote it, I provided the material and he turned it into Peel, adding his own twists and lilts. He didn't admit it at the time, but he soldiered through the show in some pain, with a significant toothache. That night he left a message on my answerphone at home, apologizing for his crabby mood (hadn't even noticed it). I kept the microcassette for posterity; although I'd met many famous people at the BBC, I confess to having been a little starstruck producing the legendary John Peel.
