John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Belinda Jo Carlisle (born August 17, 1958) is an American singer who gained worldwide fame as the lead vocalist of the Go-Go's, one of the most successful all-female bands of all time. Originally beginning her career in 1977 as a member of the Los Angeles punk band the Germs, Carlisle went on to join the Go-Go's as lead singer after the band's formation in 1978. The Go-Go's would go on to sell 8 million albums in just three years.

After the Go-Go's dissolution in 1985, Carlisle went on to have a successful solo career with hits such as "Mad About You", "I Get Weak", "Circle in the Sand", "Leave a Light On" and "Heaven Is a Place on Earth", among others, which were major successes in the United States, United Kingdom and internationally as well. Her autobiography, Lips Unsealed, published in June 2010, was a New York Times Best Seller and received favorable reviews. On August 11, 2011, as a member of the Go-Go's, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

A Sample of Belinda Carlisle's Heaven Is A Place On Earth was used on the track

Peel played a track from the singer on his BBC Radio Cambridgeshire show after his daughter Alexandra wanted Belinda Carlisle's Circle In The Sand, when he asked each of his children what was their favourite record they heard in the year that they want to play on his show. Belinda Carlisle later appeared on a Happy Hardcore record, which Peel played from Waxman called Heaven on his 29 December 1996 show, that used the sample of her vocals from 'Heaven Is A Place On Earth'.
