British Pathe report on the Melody Maker Pop Star Awards in 1969, where John Peel is seen giving prizes to Mary Hopkin and others, among them Jethro Tull (who won an unmentioned award), and Andy "Thunderclap" Newman - second in the "brightest hope for the future" category. Christine Perfect, who had recently left Chicken Shack, was a surprise victor as "top girl singer" - Mary Hopkin, more widely known than Perfect to the general public, came second. Eric Clapton, then with Blind Faith ("best British and international hope"), Peter Green, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac, who came fourth in the best group vote, are also present.
