Built For Comfort are a British blues rock band formed in 1993 from Stowmarket. Over the subsequent 5 years the line-up changed a few times, morphing from a five piece guitar band to an eight piece with a horn section.
They played to packed houses in East Anglia and were one of a handful of local bands to break out into the national and international Blues scene, playing festivals all over Britain and Europe. They released a CD, “Big”, in 1996. Great reviews and radio airplay followed with the CD being aired on BBC Radio Suffolk.
In October 1998 they played their last gig and went their separate ways. Band members ended up all over the world, touring with other artists, raising families, and even one or two got proper jobs.
In 2019, the band decided to reform and perform at several shows.
Links to Peel[]
Peel played a track from the band under the self titled name of Built For Comfort, which was also a Willie Dixon song of the same name on his 20 August 1994 show. Before playing the track, Peel explained that when he moved to Peel Acres in Stowmarket, he met singer Mal Brierley outside Woolworths, who told him that he sent a cigarette tin with slides in to him when he was at Radio London. Peel then surprised him by saying that he still got that tin on his desk and remembered his name, which took him by surprise. He then later on the show mentions that he still keeps in touch with him over the years. After the track was played, Peel mentioned that Adam Clarkson, the band's guitarist teaches his son Thomas the guitar and daughter Florence the bass.
