
Checkmate were a French punk band from Caen in Normandy, formed in the late 1970s. Members were Jean-François Guillaume (bass), Philippe Groslier (guitar), Philippe Leterrier (drums) and Vlad Dialectics (vocals). Their sole release, on the Sweet Harmony label, was Only Fools Pretend To Be Happy / Week-End, Bloody Week-End (1979).
