John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Come In Tokio were a Liverpool band active 1980-85, featuring Phil Wylie (voc, gtr) (brother of Pete Wylie) (later of Big Scream), Alan Currie (drms), Frank Mahon (bass), John Jenkins (keys) (later Persuaders), John Gillin (gtr). Had lots of record company interest after John Peel session, also did two further sessions on Radio One for Kid Jensen. Tony Taylor (keys) (ex Big Still) was also a member at some point.

Links To Peel[]

Despite recording three sessions for Peel between 1982 and 1984, Liverpool band Come In Tokio didn't manage to release any records and are probably best remembered as the widely tipped outfit featuring Phil Wylie, brother of Pete from perennial show favorites Wah!. As the less-celebrated sibling admitted to the DJ in an interview on 06 April 1982, the family link wasn't always an advantage, often leading to misplaced expectations.

Merseyside-born Peel, who tended to favour Liverpool bands irrespective of other factors, initially booked Come in Tokio for a session on the strength of their first demo.[1] The well-received debut Maida Vale set was later repeated three times, including as a best of year selection. In June 1982, the band played a gig with the John Peel roadshow at Keele University. [2]
