Croatia (Croatian: Hrvatska), officially the Republic of Croatia (Croatian: Republika Hrvatska, is a country at the crossroads of Central and Southeast Europe on the Adriatic Sea. It borders Slovenia to the northwest, Hungary to the northeast, Serbia to the east, and Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro to the southeast, and it shares a maritime border with Italy. Its capital, Zagreb, forms one of the country's primary subdivisions, along with twenty counties. Croatia has an area of 56,594 square kilometres (21,851 square miles) and a population of 4.07 million, most of whom are Catholics.

Peel with the Pig and roommate Gerry went on a roadtrip to the former Yugoslavia in August 1971. On his column for Disc & Music Echo, published on 28th August 1971, Peel mentioned driving through Rijeka and reaching Jablanac, where they took a ferry to Novalja and stayed there near the beach. [1]

According to Margrave Of The Marshes, Peel also revisited the former Yugoslavia on a road trip with the Pig and the Youth Club in 1975. An article about the Youth Club's trip to Yugoslavia was published in September 1975 on the Great Finborough Newsletter. [2]

Peel played many Croat acts on his shows, even playing a Eurovision entry song from the Croatian band, Novi Fosili, who were representing Yugoslavia during the 1987 Eurovision Song Contest.
