The Dirtbombs are an American garage rock band based in Detroit, Michigan, notable for blending diverse influences such as punk rock and soul while featuring a dual bass guitar, dual drum and guitar lineup. The Dirtbombs were formed by Mick Collins (of the influential garage punk band The Gories) as a side project and started recording songs by 1995.
Links to Peel[]
Peel first played the Dirtbombs in 1997 when he played a track from their All Geeked Up EP. He started to play their music significantly after 2000, when garage rock revival became vibrant in the American and European underground, led in part by fellow Detroit band the White Stripes.
In 2001, Peel invited the band to do a live session for his show, where they performed nine tracks and also nominated their single, Ode To A Black Man, a cover of a Phil Lynott song, as one of his singles of the month for December 2001 (Peel's Record Box). After Peel's death, it was later found out that he had a couple of their singles in his record box.
