John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Dr Phibes And The House Of Wax Equations

Dr. Phibes and the House of Wax Equations were an English psychedelic rock band, formed in 1989 in Crewe, Cheshire, who were active between 1989 and 1995. They were composed of vocalist and guitarist Lawrence Howard King Jr. (sentenced to life in prison for murdering his mother in 1997), bassist Lee Patrick Belsham (died of cancer at the age of 49 in 2017) and drummer Keith York (currently playing various jazz gigs and festivals, while recording, touring, and drumming for The Orb).

The band were regulars in the UK Indie Chart and had some links with other local bands in the North West. The band's name was linked to American actor Vincent Price who starred in House of Wax and the two Dr. Phibes films.

The band toured extensively around the UK and mainland Europe, including a major European tour featuring performances at rock festivals in France, Switzerland and Germany.

Peel discovered the group in 1990 when he played tracks from their debut single, Sugarblast EP, on his radio programmes. Further material from the group were played on his programmes, including two sessions recorded for his shows between 1991 and 1993. They also recorded some tracks for Peel's colleague Mark Radcliffe's late night, Hit The North, radio show in 1992.
