John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Droyds

The Droyds was a UK-based electroclash band formed by three former Psychic TV members - Andy Chatterley, Richard Norris and Matthew Best (aka DJ Global) who got together via a now defunct web site called twentythree.co.uk (not the fish and chips site currently at that address). They were joined by singer Natalie Casey and producer John Taylor on keyboards. Andy and Richard also run God Made Me Hardcore Records. The band went on hiatus towards the end of 2003, with Andy starting up a new band, Demeter, and Richard working with Dave Ball once again as The Grid. The band returned to the stage in November 2004 with a gig in London's Electrogogo club, slimmed down to a two-piece of Andy and Richard and playing a very different style of music in more of an ambient/electro vein.

Peel played their cover of Squeeze's Take Me I'm Yours on his shows in 2002. He also talked about receiving a note from Rough Trade on his 02 May 2002 show talking about Richard Norris and his first band, the Innocent Vicars:

"Hey that's one of those revivalist things from California, you're probably thinking to yourself. Well no, St. Albans, really.... you're probably too young to remember the original.... but it comes with a note from Pete at Rough Trade, saying, 'Here's a good story for you, today Richard Norris, a good mate of ours, came into the shop with his latest 7" single, which you've just heard. He told us, the last time he brought a single directly into the shop was 21 years ago, a 7" by the Innocent Vicars, and he paid £200 cash for the 300 copies, or thereabouts, he went back to St. Albans all content, and that night listened as usual to your programme. Imagine his joy when you played the track that very evening. I think he still thinks of this as the pinnacle of his illustrious career'. Well I hope that you're with us tonight, Richard, because in addition to playing the Droyds, I think it's time to play the Innocent Vicars again as well."

He then proceeded to play 'Antimatter' by the Innocent Vicars.
