EMF

E.M.F. was a ska band formed around 1979 by blues bassist Mojo (Tony) Morgan in Coventry, UK. The group supported other ska bands such as The Specials, Bad Manners, The Beat, and The Bodysnatchers. They released one single "Anti-Bellum" c/w "One Way Girl" in 1981 by which time ska was already on the wane, although the track and the group had made it to the Battle of the Bands competition and LP that year.

It remains unknown as to what the acronym "E:M:F:" stood for although this group has nothing to do with the alternative dance group using the same acronym, and who had a hit with "Unbelievable" in 1990.

Links to Peel[]

Peel singled out E.M.F. as being the "best by some distance" on the Battle of the Bands LP, featured mostly "tedious" bands. He remarked that the track was "a bit 1980, but jolly enough".
