Erasure are a synth-pop duo formed by lead vocalist Dave Bell and keyboardist and electronic music maestro Vince Clarke (formerly of Depeche Mode, Yazoo and The Assembly), active since 1985. The duo have had 35 Top 40 singles (of which 24 consecutive releases), including their 1992 ABBA-esque EP, and five no.1 albums in succession between 1991 and 1994. In 1989 they won the Brit award for Best British Group. Their most recent studio album World Be Gone, their seventeenth, was released in May 2017. (read more on Wikipedia)
Links to Peel
Possibly due to the group's overtly commercial sound, Peel does not seem to have played any of Erasure's music. He was host on Top of the Pops when the duo made their show debut on 20 November 1986 with the single Sometimes, although they were introduced by co-host Janice Long. The only other connection is with group member Vince Clarke who had recorded a session with Yazoo in 1982, and the hit single Never Never with Feargal Sharkey of the Undertones as The Assembly, which made the 1983 Festive Fifty.
