John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Europeans (Bristol)

Europeans were a short-lived post-punk four-piece who formed in Bristol in 1977. Their debut self-titled 7", coupled with 'Voices', was released on Heartbeat Records, based in Clifton, Bristol, and recorded at Crescent Studios, Bath. The track was re-recorded a year later and released on Rialto records, although still with limited success, and the group split up. Group members were Jonathan Cole on vocals, guitar and synthesizers, Jon Klein (later of Specimen and Siouxsie & The Banshees) on lead guitar, Steve Street on bass and James Cole on drums. Street has also been involved in production, working on recordings for The Pop Group and Glaxo Babies, among others. He currently works for Sugar Shack Records Ltd. and its subsidiary Bristol Archive Records which re-releases music mainly from Bristol bands associated with the 1970/80s punk and new wave era.

Peel picked up on their 1978 debut release, often pointing out the group's origin, and is also known to have played the re-release. He also played Europeans' contribution to the much appreciated 'Avon Calling' Bristol compilation album, released in October 1979.[1]
