Ostzonensuppenwürfelmachenkrebs (sometimes shortened to OZSWMK) was a German indie rock band formed in the late 80's in Hamburg, Germany. The group were among the leading artists in the Hamburg scene of the time, identified by German critics as the "Hamburger Schule" ("Hamburg School").. The name of the band refers to a headline in the German tabloid newspaper Bild, which translates into English as "East-Zone soup cubes bring cancer". The corresponding edition appeared on 2nd August 1952 and was related to the health-damaging effect of certain chemical components in East German products. Until German reunification in 1989, "Ostzone" was used in West Germany as a derogatory term for Communist East Germany.

Peel played tracks from the band in the 90's and seemed to be partially influenced into playing their music by the group's long name.
