Cranes

Cranes are a British music group formed in 1985 whose style has been described as "gothic minimalism". Formed in 1985 in Portsmouth, England by siblings Alison and Jim Shaw and named after the many mechanical cranes around the city's docks, Cranes are best known for the childlike, high-pitched vocals of lead singer Alison. The band achieved some popularitiy in the indie scene in the early 90's, when their track, "Jewel" peaked at number 29 in the UK singles chart in 1993. (read more on wikipedia)

John gave coverage to the band in 1989, when the band self-released their EP. Between 1989 and 1990 the group did two sessions for his programmes. Peel admitted on his 11 April 1990 show that the band were unsigned and also mentioned on his 16 May 1990 programme that he tried to see the band perform at the Borderline in London, but the gig was cancelled. By 1991, it seems Peel lost interest in the band.
