Peel says the gig was a few months after the artist's debut album was released (in 1970). He also remarks that entrance to the gig cost sixty pence, or fifty pence for members, which may indicate that the venue was Hampstead's folk club rather than a polytechnic. Wainwright himself says he first visited the UK in 1971, accoridng to the BBC's Keeping It Peel page[1]
