Impact All Stars is the name under which Blood & Fire issued the 1997 album "Forward The Bass: Dub at Randy's 1972-75". All of the album's tracks were produced by Clive Chin at Randy's Studio 17. Chin mixed the tracks with Errol "ET" Thompson and Karl Pitterson. Of the 16 tracks on the album, 10 were released previously as "Randy's Dub" on the Impact! label in 1975. Only 200 copies of this LP were ever made.
Clive Chin is the son of Vincent "Randy" Chin, the owner of Studio 17. Other productions credited to Chin include 'This is Augustus Pablo', the famed melodica player's debut LP. (Read more at last.fm.)
Links to Peel[]
In 1998, Peel gave airtime to several tracks from the Blood & Fire album 'Forward The Bass: Dub at Randy's 1972-75', credited to Impact All Stars. The artist name used for the loose pool of musicians was a reference to the Impact! label of Randy's studio owner Vincent "Randy" Chin that had originally put out the vintage dub tracks.[1]
The DJ had earlier played releases on Impact!, including several tracks from the 'Java Java Dub' compilation in 1989, with Impact All Stars and the Upsetters credited as the backing band(s)[2], as well as an unlikely cover version of the "Batman" theme by "Randy’s Allstars".
In summer 1991, in the second of his Cover Version Specials shows, Peel played a version of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' from a Trojan Records "Tighten Up" compilation with Impact All-Stars credited as the backing band for singer Jimmy London.
