In Embrace were an English art rock, alternative rock, and indie pop band formed in Leicestershire in 1981 and later based in Coventry, England. They released seven singles, two albums and an EP/mini-album before splitting up in 1987.
The band was formed in Leicestershire in 1981 by Gary Knight (vocals, keyboards, guitar) and Cameron Lindo (guitar, keyboards, vocals). The duo had previously been in the short-lived post-punk band, 3-Way Dance but, inspired by the likes of Eyeless In Gaza, Durutti Column and Young Marble Giants formed in Embrace 'to explore a broader emotional palette'. They released their debut EP, The Initial Caress, on Glass Records in May 1982.

Links to Peel[]
Peel first played the band's material ('The Air Inbetween') on his show in May 1982 and described it as a curious work and rather effective. He would play further tracks from the band on his programmes until the mid 80's. After his death in 2004, Peel had several albums of the band in his Record Collection: I and in 2025, their mini album, 'This Brilliant Evening', was sold as part of his Record Collection: Auction (July 2025): Theme Packs: Singles.
