John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Inner Circle are a reggae band formed in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1968. Brothers Ian and Roger Lewis have remained consistent members, playing bass and guitar, respectively. The band initially backed The Chosen Few and others in the early 1970s, before a split in 1973 with departing members founding Third World. A new lineup then joined with successful solo artist Jacob Miller, releasing a string of records. This era of the band ended with Miller's death in a car crash in 1980.

The group reformed in 1986, releasing several international hit singles, including "Sweat (A La La La La Long)" and "Bad Boys," the theme from the American television show Cops.

In late 1999, Peel played numerous tracks from the Blood & Fire release ‘Heavyweight Dub / Killer Dub)', co-credited to Inner Circle and Fatman Riddim Section, bringing together two albums originally released in 1978, mainly featuring dubs of Jacob Miller songs.[1] Fatman Riddim Section were the Lewis brothers of Inner Circle playing with outside musicians.[2] In his selections, Peel focused on the earlier "Heavyweight Dub" section of the collection, dubbed by Maximilian at the Channel One studio; "Killer Dub" was mixed by Prince Jammy at King Tubby's studio.

Over the decades, the DJ also played other tracks by Inner Circle and related artists such as Fatman Riddim Section, Jacob Miller and Third World. Inner Circle also appeared as the uncredited backing band on many other recordings, including the international hit "Cherry Oh Baby" by Eric Donaldson (played by JP on 22 December 1971 and Where It's At in 1976), later covered by the Rolling Stones and session band UB40.
