John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

Johan Cruyff

Hendrik Johannes Cruijff (25 April 1947 – 24 March 2016), commonly known as Johan Cruyff, was a Dutch professional football player and manager. Regarded as one of the greatest players in history and as the greatest Dutch footballer ever, he won the Ballon d'Or three times, in 1971, 1973, and 1974. Cruyff was a proponent of the football philosophy known as Total Football developed by Rinus Michels, which Cruyff also employed as a manager. Because of the far reaching impact of his playing style and his coaching ideas, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern football. For his achievements as a manager, he is also viewed as one of the greatest managers of all time.

He also released a single in 1969 called Oei Oei Oei (Dat Was Me Weer Een Loei). It is the only song the football star ever released, and it was written by Peter Koelewijn.

An approximate translation of the title is "Oh, oh, oh, yet another blow". It is about going to see a cousin first lose a boxing match, then going with him to the pub where he gets short-changed, and finally accompanying him home where he is confronted by his angry wife.

Peel played his only single, Oei Oei Oei (Dat Was Me Weer Een Loei) in the early 90's on his radio programmes. The song came from the Bend It! 91 football compilation album, which Peel played tracks from on his shows.
