John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

23 November 1983

(JP: 'I wonder if anybody cares to see me dressed in a silk scarf')

28 January 1982

  • Jose De Jesus & 157th St. Band: Get Tough (12") Park Place
(JP: 'Oh everybody Mambo... and the song written by those well known Puerto Ricans Norman Durham and Woody Cunningham ... a pretty hip start of the programme I'm sure you'll agree')

17 May 1977

  • 0:58
  • Steve Winwood: Time Is Running Out (12") Island
  • JP link between these 2 tracks
  • Generation X: Day By Day (session) start only
  • 1:39
  • end of above track, then link between these 2 tracks
(JP: 'Oh best of the new bands as I said at the beginning of the programme... and that's the last from them')
(JP: 'Ends suddenly that if you're not paying attention, it can easily catch you out, little too mannered for my own personal taste, but bound to sell exceedingly well I must admit ... this on the other hand is the last from Robert Wyatt')
(JP: '...along those lines, and it's called Truly and it's either by somebody called J. Ayes as in John Ayes, as it were, or a group called the Jayes. That sounds very silly, but I've seen it written both ways on record, so it could be either, and frankly I have no idea which it is. It also features Ranking Trevor. Ranking Trevor, an excellent man in every way, doesn't come into the record until it's about three minutes and forty-three seconds old, but when he does come in, it's marvellous, and this is a great record anyway.')

1977 likely a show soon after

(JP: '...Unlike my brother I don't have trouble with my r's')
