John Peel Wiki

Changes to the look of John Peel Wiki will take place in the near future due to a new skin being rolled out over Oct/Nov across Wikia. Please see the Wikia Staff Blog for further details. On this site, the changes will affect the navigation from the left menu, as well as introduce a fixed page width with narrower content space. Please be patient while adjustments are made for the switch to the new system.

UPDATE: As the change is now in force for some users, I have switched the navigation to the simplified one for the new system. Please check Navigation in the Help section if you can't find things. I also initially made small adjustments to the front page layout, but have now reverted to the old look until all users are on the new system.

COUNTDOWN: Just a reminder for people still using Monaco that the final switch to the new skin is due on Nov. 3. After that, it will no longer be offered as an option. Sorry. Nothing to do with me.

BBC - OneMusic - Label Of The Month Rock Action (page 1) 2

Label of the Month was a regularly updated feature on the Radio One section of the BBC website for over two years from (possibly) June 2002 [1], offering "John Peel with the record labels worthy of your attention".[2] A link to the series appeared on the main R1 page for Peel.[3]

It followed an earlier "Featured Label" slot, from the start of the decade, which appears to have been less frequently updated but covered labels including Warp Records [4], City Slang [5], Blood And Fire [6] and Shifty Disco [7].

The personal involvement of the DJ himself in the online content of LOTM is unclear, beyond presumably picking the labels to be highlighted, with research work by an unnamed "Peel Team" occasionally mentioned in the accompanying articles. These introduce a range of independent labels whose releases were played regularly by Peel in the early part of the century, including artists, interviews and occasional mixes.

The list below provides links to related pages still online, via archive.org. Please add more information if known. Some LOTM articles appear to be unavailable, with broken links to pages on MFS and Sympathy For The Record Industry. [8] [9]
