The Liggers were a Manchester punk band consisting of Patti Owens (keyboards, vocals), Gina Sobers (bass, keyboards), Donna Sullivan (bass, keyboards), Neil Anderson (guitar, drums) and Andrew (guitar). The group released several tracks on various artists compilation albums in 1980, before splitting up.

Peel discovered the group in late 1980 via the compilation album, Unzipping The Abstract (Bands Of The Manchester Musicians' Collective). Impressed by their material, he got the band to do a session for his show, where they were filmed going to Maida Vale to record it via the BBC2 TV documentary programme, Arena: Today Carshalton Beeches ... Tomorrow, Croydon, which was first broadcast on 31st January 1981.
