Luddites

The Luddites were an early 80's British post punk band from Hull, who only released two singles before splitting up. Drummer Dave Stead later joined the Beautiful South, a band formed in 1988 by Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway, two former members of the Hull group The Housemartins, both of whom performed lead and backing vocals.

Peel played their debut single in 1983 and was impressed by them to invite the band to do a session in the same year. Listeners at the end of the year voted their track Doppleganger in the Festive Fifty of 1983.
