MFS (Masterminded For Success) is an independent electronic dance music label from Berlin, Germany. Founded by Mark Reeder in 1990, it initially ran until 2008, when Reeder put the label on ice to concentrate on his own music production and remixer career. Reeder reactivated the label in 2018, specifically to release the album Fragment by Chinese band STOLEN.
The label was originally founded by "Deutsche Schallplatten Berlin" the former GDR record company, which made it the very first independent dance music label of East Germany, until the DSB closed down in 1993. After which, Mark Reeder and his partner Torsten Jurk took MFS and carried on as a fully independent label, to launch the careers and release music by some of electronic dance music's seminal artists.
MFS is considered to be one of, if not the first trance label, as it was to be the first to coin the term "trance music", and today, is seen by few as a traditional underground label due to its commercial success. Its main focus from the beginning was trance music, but soon started to release a wide variety of different music within the electronic genres.

Links To Peel[]
Always on the lookout for new music from Germany, Peel played MFS releases regularly over the decade from 1992, including early records from the likes of Paul Van Dyk, Cosmic Baby, Ellen Allien, and Corvin Dalek. In the new century, singles and albums from the Berlin-based operation appeared in monthly Peel's Record Box picks for the BBC website, where MFS was selected as a Peel Label Of The Month.[1]
The DJ was also acquainted with Mark Reeder, the Manchester-born long-time Berlin resident who ran MFS. Reeder had earlier been a member of Frantic Elevators, as well as Factory Records representative in the divided former German capital, and was played by Peel as a member of Die Unbekannten in 1982 and 1983.[2] On 10 October 1992, Peel interviewed Reeder in a special live show from Berlin, broadcast as part of a BBC Radio campaign on work opportunities in Europe.

The pair appeared together again in the 1996 TV documentary Travels With My Camera: Autobahn Blues, with Reeder taking Peel to a flea-market and then Potsdamer Platz in the heart of reunified German capital, before going for a beer and walking together by the former Checkpoint Charlie and remnants of the Berlin Wall.
After Peel's death in 2004, Reeder was among those who posted tributes on the BBC website, emphasizing the DJ’s role in promoting anti-establishment music behind the old Iron Curtain:
“Not many people in the UK are aware just how immensely important John was to the Eastern Europeans, and his contribution to the fall of communism too. It seems incredible, but it is the truth. I firmly believe that he was one of the subliminal driving forces that eventually toppled the communist regimes of Eastern Europe. [ … ] Through music, I had made many politically "dissident" friends in the east of Europe (East Berlin, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland) and they were all really driven by the music John played. All were hardcore fans, and each religiously listened to his BFBS & BBC (World Service) radio programmes - even though it was forbidden, recording his shows onto cassette to be clandestinely distributed to their friends.”[3]
