Mahendra Kapoor (9 January 1934 – 27 September 2008; born: Amritsar, India) was an Indian playback singer. In a career spanning five decades, his repertoire extended to 2500 songs in various Indian regional languages, some for Indian films and his solo career. In 1972, he was awarded the Padma Shri (fourth highest civilian award in the Republic of India, after the Bharat Ratna, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan) by the Government of India and also performed the title song for the Indian TV series Mahabharat in 1988, which was later shown on British television between 1990 and 1992 on BBC2.
